Frequently Asked Questions

How can we help you, Patriot?

Ingredients

What's in your candles?

We take your health—and your home—seriously. That’s why every Resistance Candle is made with a premium coconut-apricot wax blend that burns clean, slow, and steady. It’s non-toxic, eco-friendly, and safe for families, pets, and patriots alike.

We intentionally don’t use soy wax. Why?

Because the vast majority of soy is genetically modified, and many of our customers (and team members) experience headaches, allergies, or other sensitivities when burning soy-based products. We believe you shouldn’t have to choose between quality and peace of mind.

Our fragrances are crafted from a carefully tested blend of essential oils and high-performance synthetic oils—always phthalate-free—to deliver rich, immersive scents without the toxins.

No gimmicks. No garbage. Just candles you can feel good about bringing into your home.

Why Coconut-Apricot Wax?

At Resistance Candles, we prioritize your well-being and the integrity of our products. That's why we exclusively use a premium coconut-apricot wax blend. Here's why this choice stands out:

  • Our coconut-apricot wax burns cleaner than traditional waxes, producing minimal soot and smoke. This ensures better indoor air quality, making it safer for families and pets.
  • This wax blend holds and releases fragrance oils more effectively, providing a rich and consistent aroma throughout your space.
  • With a lower melting point, coconut-apricot wax candles burn slower and last longer, offering extended enjoyment.
  • Sourced from renewable coconut and apricot oils, this wax is biodegradable and supports sustainable agriculture, reducing environmental impact.
  • Unlike soy wax, which is often derived from genetically modified crops and can cause allergies or headaches, our coconut-apricot wax is non-GMO and gentle on sensitive individuals.

By choosing coconut-apricot wax, we ensure that our candles not only provide a luxurious experience but also align with our values of health, sustainability, and quality craftsmanship.

Do you use essential oils in your candles?

We don’t use straight essential oils in our candles—and for good reason. While they’re great in a diffuser or for personal care, they’re not built for open flame. Here’s why we skip them:

  1. Some essential oils release harmful compounds when heated—definitely not something you want floating through your home.

  2. Once exposed to flame, essential oils break down. So you’re not getting their health perks—just a higher price tag.

  3. Certain essential oils can actually increase fire risk when burned directly in wax.

  4. Pure EOs have weak scent throw and don’t linger in a room the way a proper candle should.

  5. Example: it takes about 10,000 rose petals to make a single pound of rose essential oil—and that still won’t give you a strong-smelling candle.

Instead, we use premium fragrance oils, which are carefully formulated for candle use. These often include real essential oils, but also contain a blend of synthetic and organic compounds that are stable, safe, and designed to deliver a rich, immersive scent experience.

And yes—most brands that claim “made with essential oils” are doing exactly this. They’re using it as a marketing phrase, not a full formula. We prefer to tell it straight.

At the end of the day, we’ll always choose what’s clean-burning, non-toxic, and true to our mission: giving you candles that smell incredible and uphold your values.

Are your candles pet-safe?

Your safety and that of your family and pets is paramount! Our founders have multiple furry friends and many of our customers have pets with no problems. Our candles are pet safe and free of harmful chemicals.

Candle Care & Tips

How strong are your candles?

It depends on the candle—and your nose.

Some of our scents are bold and commanding, perfect for larger rooms, open layouts, or making a statement during gatherings. Others are more subtle and meant to create a warm, comforting backdrop—ideal for quiet mornings, focused reading time, or winding down at the end of the day.

Think of it like tuning a radio. Some folks want it loud and clear; others prefer it soft in the background. And just like with coffee or cologne, scent strength is personal—what’s strong to one person may feel gentle to another.

If you’re looking for a specific candle’s “power level,” contact us directly at shop@resistancecandles.com—our team is happy to give personal recommendations based on your space and preferences.

The Candle Experience

Lighting Your Candle for the First Time

You’ve unboxed it. You’ve breathed it in. Now it’s time to light it up.

Here’s how to get the cleanest, longest burn from day one:

  • Trim the wick to ⅛–¼ inch before lighting
  • Burn in a well-ventilated space, away from drafts
  • Watch for a steady, even flame—no tall flames or heavy flickering

How to Smell Your Candle

Our fragrances are built in layers—called notes—designed to unfold over time:

  • Top notes hit first—often bright, citrusy, or herbal
  • Middle notes form the heart—spices, florals, pine, or fruit
  • Base notes linger longest—woods, resins, musk, amber

Each layer has a role. See what you notice as the candle warms up.

Basic Candle Care

A little maintenance goes a long way. Follow these tips to protect your home and your candle:

  • Burn long enough to melt the entire top layer (prevents tunneling)
  • Don’t burn more than 4 hours at a time
  • Keep wicks trimmed and wax free of debris
  • Never burn to the very bottom—stop with ½ inch of wax left
  • Place candles 3+ inches apart if burning multiples
Always burn on a heat-safe surface
  • If you see a “mushroom” on the wick, trim it

Once your candle’s done:

  • Pop it in the freezer and remove leftover wax (great for wax warmers)
  • Reuse the jar or tin! They make great organizers, planters, and more
  • Or recycle it (check local guidelines)
